Introduction to my website

This website is dedicated to those pubs and clubs that have fallen, in some cases they have been re-vamped for the dispensing of alcohol, there have been others which have not been so lucky they have lost their fight and have fallen foul of the bulldozer.

There are some which are pretty famous and "everybody went there", I recall the Coach & Horses public house - pictured on the left - when, back in the day my friends and I had a "route" which to be fair did change on occasions when a playing card was chosen. The rules have been more or less been lost in the myths of time but involved an ace, 2, knave, queen & king.

The reason why I started the Facebook group of the same name was to reach the locals who have frequented these taverns, inns, pubs and clubs.

I personally have a lot of great memories with the majority of the featured pubs & clubs, apart from the ones that have fallen prior to me being of an age to participate in the coming together and socialising in the local.

I shall endeavour to show as many of the premises as I can, on this site even though some of the images will be the present rather than the image of the watering hole.

Nuneaton, Bedworth and the surrounding areas

In the Nuneaton & Bedworth area there have been wholesale changes to the pubs & clubs (PaC), from the top off my head I can think of many PaC that are no longer in use... such as the Woolpack Inn & Donniethorne Arms (housing), the Graziers Arms, the Pheasant, Stockingford Institute (the Cabbage) (demolished an empty site).

There are those PaC that I call revolving door venues, they have a habit of closing, opening, closing etc..

Among a very recent closure is the Cricketers Arms - pictured left - as of May 2013 this pub has fallen foul of the "last orders please".

Not being an over educated chappie my personnel view on why so many have fallen is the smoking ban, economic pressures, the cost of fuel which impacts on transportation, the cost of the beer, the cost that the breweries add on and of course the tax we all pay on our favourite tipple.

The pubs that are still open most of them sell / offer food albeit some only on weekends, there are of course some which prove the rule to be wrong.

If anyone has any information or has any corrections that need to be included then please contact me through my contact page.
